YOUNG LEADERS ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM (YLaP)
 
INTRODUCTION

Young Leaders’ achievement Program (YLaP) is a joint venture of four leading organizations namely World Memon Organization (WMO), All Pakistan Memon Federation (APMF), Pakistan Memon Educational & Welfare Society (PMEWS) and Memon Professional Forum (MPF).

YLap is is a three-months, ten–sessions (mainly Sundays) leadership training program designed to develop teams of emerging leaders in the community working together in innovative ways across social, cultural, and national boundaries in order to promote community, personal and professional initiatives while taking pride in their identity.

Through extensive training, exercises, skill development workshops, panel discussions, field trips, and individual and group activities, participants will be able to effectively and efficiently develop leadership roles in their community through a logical approach. In addition, it will enable the individual to share his or her leadership skills and principles with others in the community and develop teams who know how to work together and to bring about change.
To further the cause of this public service initiative, 10% seats are reserved for physically handicapped.

 
OBJECTIVES

• to induce a sense of pride, commitment and accomplishment amongst the young leaders
• to promote leadership qualities through teamwork, shared vision and strategic planning
• to provide insight into community vision through information about global, national, and regional trends affecting our economies.
• to develop their problem-solving, decision- making, and priority-setting skills
• To focus on conflict management, discussing skills that can be used to reduce resistance to community change and to manage conflict between groups
• to provide insight into how non-profit organizations could be used to address community problems.

 
COLLABORATIVE PARTNERS

School of Leadership (SoL) will be the collaborative partners for the program. SoL is a renowned training institute which will contribute to the program with its professional support. It will conduct four sessions & will also take charge of evaluation of the participants.

 
FINE POINTS

Maximum # per Batch = 100 participants (10% seats are reserved for physically handicapped)

Age limit = In between 17 to 22 years

Qualifications = Minimum Matriculation or O’level

Gender = No gender Biases

Selection Criteria = Interview followed by balloting

Duration = 3 months (10 – sessions, mainly on Sundays)

Timings = 10 am till 4 pm

Commencement (1st Batch) = From August 17 till October 12, 2008

Venue = Dadabhoy Institute of Higher Education, Al-Riaz Society, Near Hill Park, Off: Shaheed-e-Millat Road, Karachi

Evaluation = Through presentations, project reports, class performance, interviews.

Fee = Rs.2000/participant* (inclusive of Certificate, folder, training material and paraphernalia, lunch and tea)

Award = YLaP Certificate

(* Although the total expenses per participant is approximately Rs.7,500/-)

 
CONCLUSION

Each year two batches of 100 participants are expected to complete the program. The focus will be on building opportunities through leadership development. The participants will gain adequate knowledge, skills and practical understanding on some topics but most importantly they will all work as a team for a common goal at one platform. The participants will form a network of young leaders and exchange views and information to address the issues of our society.

In short, YLaP will not only benefit individual participants but the nation at large as it will produce ‘LEADERS FOR THE FUTURE’.
