The World Memon Organization, Pakistan Chapter, had arranged
a function at Rangoonwala Community Centre, Karachi on Sunday, 25th of June 2006
to honour Sir Iqbal Sacranie on conferment of knighthood by the British Government.
Mr. Pir Muhammad Kaliya, Vice President of WMO PC presided.
The function was attended by elite of the Memon community such
as Mr. Muhammad Hussain Mehanti, Member of National Assembly, Mr. Zakaria Bawany,
President, United Memon Jamat, Mr. Salim Parekh, Secretary General, All Pakistan
Memon Federation and various other leading personalities of the Memon community.
The Meeting commenced with the recitation of a few verses from
the Holy Quran and was followed by Naat-e-Rasool (PBUH).
A documentary film showing the performance of WMO and unity
of Memon community was projected. The film depicted the welfare work from its
inception till date.
Mr. Pir Muhammad Kaliya, one of the Vice Presidents of WMO
and Chairman of WMO Pakistan Chapter, highlighted the services rendered for the
welfare of the Memon community in particular, and the Muslims in general. He informed
that Sir Muhammad Iqbal Sacranie is the founder-Secretary General of Muslim Association
of Britain and he remained on this post from 2002 to 2006.
In the year 1999, Sir Iqbal Sacranie was conferred with the
title of O.B.E. by British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair. The Queen of Britain
conferred the title of "SIR" on Sir Muhammad Iqbal Sacranie. He is the
seventh Memon to have been conferred with this title.
Sir Iqbal Sacranie was elected Deputy President of World Memon
Organization unopposed in 2004 and was re-elected on the same post in 2006.
Sir Iqbal Sacranie's efforts in establishing the World Memon
Organization and making it effective organization are commendable.
Mr. Pir Muhammad Kaliya further stated that WMO is a central
body of the world and has been serving both the Memon community and Muslims all
over the world. Mr. Pir Muhammad Kaliya appealed to the attendees to join WMO.
Sir Iqbal Sacranie, in his speech, thanked World Memon Organization,
Pakistan Chapter, for the reception in his honor. He clarified that the title
conferred on him reflects the dedication of the Memon community in serving humanity.
He informed that the Muslim population of Britain is only 3%
and unfortunately the Muslims are considered terrorists after 9/11 and 7/7 incidents.
The Muslims of Britain were terrified after these incidents. The Muslim Council
of Britain rose to help the Muslim community of Britain and succeeded to a great
extent in removing all doubts against the Muslims.
Sir Iqbal Sacranie appealed to all the invitees to join WMO
in helping the Memon community and Muslims all over the world.
A dinner was hosted in honor of Mr. Iqbal Sacranie, on Monday,
the 26th June 2006, by Mr. Ebrahim Qassim, an active member of the Board of Management
of WMO PC. The dinner was attended by selected personalities of the Memon community.
On the appeal of Sir Iqbal Sacranie, Mr. Hussain Dawood and
his son had agreed to become Trustees of WMO. Besides, Mr. Abdul Wahid, Mr. Abdul
Karim announced to bcome Patrons of WMO. Many other people agreed to become life
members of WMO, which includes Mr. Abdul Ghani Usman, Mr. Junaid Dhorajvi, Mr.
Haroon Ahmed and Mr. Mehmood Parekh. |
